So you don't like having your photo taken...?

Some people love being in front of the camera but loads don’t (including me). So how do you cope when you need photographs for your business, album cover or wedding day? Here’s a few  thoughts that might help you out.

  1. Think about the style of photography you want. Research photographs you like and have a look at the kind of poses other people do that seem to work

  2. If you are booking a photographer meet or call them. It’s important you get along well and share the same kind of creative vision. There’s no point hiring someone who creates big staged photos if you want a candid, natural vibe or vice versa

  3. Relax and be confident… this is a lot easier said than done! The first 5-10 minutes being photographed can feel quite awkward, but after that you will get into the swing of it and might even start to enjoy it. Give yourself time and space to be creative and have fun

  4. Don’t judge yourself too harshly. We all do it and it's a terrible trait. It’s surprising what people will see in your photographs that you might not

  5. Practice. The more you get yourself in front of the camera the more relaxed you will start to feel. Engagement shoots before a wedding are very helpful for this, but you can have a go at taking portraits of yourself anytime or get your mates to help

We have all seen photographs of ourselves we don’t like. Don’t let this put you off. Great photography can help us feel positive about ourselves and give us a little confidence boost when its done right.
